Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about brūhi Studio's architecture, hardware compatibility, DSP mastering, and broadcast streaming.

General

Q What is brūhi Studio?

brūhi is a modern broadcast platform available in two editions: Desktop Studio (a native workstation for macOS, Windows, and Linux built for live booth mixing and tactile control) and Cloud Studio (a self-hosted Docker container with a browser-based console for 24/7 automated station playout and remote management).

Q What platforms are supported?

Desktop Studio runs natively on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows 10/11, and Linux with full support for CoreAudio, WASAPI, ASIO, ALSA, and PipeWire/JACK. Cloud Studio runs as a lightweight Docker container on any Linux VPS or server (x86_64 / ARM64) and is controlled via any modern web browser.

Q Is brūhi Studio free?

The Desktop Studio is 100% free forever with no licensing fees, subscriptions, or hardware dongles. Cloud Studio (for self-hosted Docker server deployments) is available on simple yearly licensing for $50/station/year.

Q What makes brūhi unique?

brūhi is engineered for rock-solid stability, ultra-low resource usage, and predictable real-time performance. It gives you precision mixing, smart automated scheduling, mastering-grade DSP, and direct multi-format streaming in an intuitive, modern interface.

Audio Quality

Q What audio formats can I use?

brūhi supports all major professional formats including WAV, FLAC, AIFF, MP3, OPUS, and AAC. All files are processed through a broadcast-standard 48 kHz / 32-bit float internal pipeline using mastering-grade DSP.

Q How is audio latency handled?

Latency is fully configurable based on your hardware, audio drivers, and output destination. In Desktop Studio, you can adjust buffer frames (from 64 to 1024+ samples) to achieve responsive real-time playout for live monitoring and DJing. For cloud and internet streaming, buffers are optimized for jitter-free, continuous broadcast delivery.

Q How many microphones can I connect?

The mixer supports 3 concurrent hardware/network inputs: Mic 1, Mic 2, and a Remote line-in. Each input features independent gain, high-pass rumble filter, and voice-ducking.

Q What effects are included in the DSP rack?

A full 7-stage master processing rack is included: High-Pass/Low-Pass filters, 5-band Parametric EQ, studio-grade Compressor, Brick-Wall Limiter for peak protection, Noise Gate, and Stereo Soundstage Enhancer.

Broadcasting

Q Where can I stream my show?

brūhi supports all major industry standards including Icecast, Shoutcast, HLS (for web delivery), RTP, and SRT for secure studio links. Direct FM MPX baseband output is also supported in Desktop Studio.

Q Can I stream to multiple platforms at once?

Yes. Our fan-out distribution engine broadcasts to unlimited destinations simultaneously. Because encoding occurs once and is shared, adding destinations does not increase CPU load.

Q Can I record my live shows and automated playout?

Yes. brūhi provides built-in multitrack and master recording in lossless WAV, FLAC, or compressed MP3 formats with automated schedule triggers.

Library & Automation

Q How does the music and media database work?

The media library features instant search across your entire collection. It automatically reads ID3/Vorbis metadata, cue points, and provides rule-based sorting.

Q What are Smart Playlists?

Smart playlists automate content based on dynamic rules you define (e.g. rotation rules, tempo matching, artist separation, and recent-play avoidance).

Q How does station automation work?

brūhi provides rule-based playlist generation, automated time-slot triggers, track separation rules, and automated jingle rotation without requiring manual intervention.

Show Production

Q How many soundboard pads are available?

In Desktop Studio, the Cart Wall provides up to 128 instant-trigger pads across color-coded banks with custom fade durations, looping, and MIDI/keyboard shortcut bindings.

Q Can I connect a physical DJ or MIDI controller?

Yes. Desktop Studio includes a built-in "MIDI Learn" mode allowing you to map any hardware fader, crossfader, knob, or pad to the mixer in seconds.

Q How does the visual broadcast grid work?

The visual scheduler gives you a drag-and-drop horizontal month/week view for recurring shows, pre-recorded blocks, and live studio shifts.

Reliability

Q Is station state saved if the workstation reboots?

Yes. Every setting, playlist, effects chain, deck position, and schedule block is automatically persisted. Upon restart, your station resumes exactly where you left off.

Q What happens during a network disconnection?

If a remote streaming link drops, brūhi continues uninterrupted audio playout and automatically attempts seamless reconnection with exponential backoff retry.

Q How do software updates work?

brūhi includes a built-in cryptographic update verifier. You can inspect changelogs and update with a single click without disrupting active playout queues.
